The work is consisting of a performative part presented in a video and a sculptural part. The video shows three episodes. In front of the video presentation two large sculptural cushions welcome visitors to sit down on them to watch the video. The shape of the cushions - that are worn as a backpack in the video - as well as the fringes at the bottom are reminiscent of an eye. The image printed on the fabric is the echo that remains after having looked into bright light and then closing the eyes, leaving open a tiny gap.
The three videos are recorded in different places (a narrow one-way bridge, a pedestrian crossing regulated by traffic lights, the gate of a private property) and define different situations in which the pillow/backpack plays a key role: it is the performer’s extreme refuge. The artist carries her sight/vision on her shoulders like an object; she reaches a point where she places it on the ground and surrenders to the weight of the world, closing her eyes as an act of protest and defence.

She closes her eyes and seeks support in inner silence. This is not an escape in the face of a crumbling world. At a time in history whose unbearable ferocity is there for all to see, denying oneself and interrupting a flow, resulting in an act of protest, must be practised as an outpost of humanity.
What is lost and what endures, still
