"And We All Go Back To Nature is an exhibition project in which the research of St.Ages, Aurora Biancardi and Virginia Stevenin merge together. Hosted by Arka Arka, the exhibition showcases the different approaches of the artists, between video, sculpture and photography. The interdisciplinarity that characterizes the artists’ practices, becomes the linguistic bridge that connects them on a shared ground. And We All Go Back To Nature is a poem with several voices, that unfolds the intimacy embodied in the creative process.
The artists’ bodies move through natural landscapes suspended in time: mountains and cicadas surround the shamanic presence of a female figure who, by joining multiple elements, seeks to encompass unity, as long as it takes, as the title underlines. Aurora Biancardi, combining moving images, textiles and photography, draws an imaginary cartography to get lost. In this process there is no meaning to discover, instead, the artist is creating an abstraction, sometimes under the image of a carpet, at other times as a cloak. Each images offered to the viewer function as portals to a dimension that needs no definition." — Feroza
64 signs, printed on fabric, cut, sewn, and embroidered into square modules, acting as a form of abstract painting, with two ribbons on each side, are knotted together. Each module presents a portion of graffiti that has lost its original meaning, defying legibility.
These pieces are freely reconfigured together into a single artefact, bringing forth a configuration and its reverse: on one side, the recombination of signs derived from graffiti; on the other, the variation in the patterns of the fabric scraps, the legacy of previous works. Two distinct abstractions.
During the production of the embroidered pieces, I photographed the interior part before pairing it with the colored fabric and sealing it shut by sewing. These images reveal the back of the embroidery, unveiling its most intimate, tactile, and sculptural dimension. In this process, the photography is enriched by a unique detail: some of the lines are re-sewn without thread, creating a path of holes that reveals an additional, new layer and opens up unprecedented vantage points.
The performance explores the meaning that these different singularities can acquire freely reconfigured together into a single artefact. The performance silently insinuates itself into the space and unfolds knot by knot in a dimension suspended between care and shamanism. The video, set in a timeless landscape, suggests something ancient and mysterious, or future and mysterious.
